Exadata Extended Storage (XT) Servers

The Exadata Database Machine is the highest performance & most efficient platform for running the Oracle database. It uses a scale-out architecture for both compute layer and storage layer. All I/Os are offloaded to the storage cells via the RDMA based Converged Ethernet (ROCE) network fabric. Customers have to make the important decision to choose between 3 types of storage cells: Extreme Flash (Persistent Memory + Enterprise Flash), High Capacity (Persistent Memory + Enterprise Flash + Disks) & Extended Capacity (all disks) which is the focus of this discussion.

The Extended Storage Servers (XT) are designed to be simple, efficient, secure, scalable and inexpensive and are at the foundation of a true Information Lifecycle Policy (ILM). In this class, we will detail the XT cells best use cases, hardware details and compare their performance characteristics to the other cell types. We will also estimate their price/performance metrics to help you in choosing the right cells for each Use Case.
