How to Configure Application Continuity, part 1

Application Continuity insulates the end-user or application from database tier interruptions, whether they are due to planned maintenance events such as rolling patching or due to unplanned failures or hangs. The intent is enable applications to continuously process their workloads without being impacted by events at the database level. To enable Application Continuity on your system there are tasks for the DBA’s and tasks in deploying the applications, but no application code changes are required, nor database schema changes.

In this first session, we focus on the task list for the DBA’s in configuring Application Continuity, Fast Application Notification (FAN) and database services, then evaluating the coverage of the submitted workloads. We focus on practical direction, for planned maintenance and for preparing for unplanned events too. The assumption is that the audience has prepared for this session by studying the Deployment Checklist.
