Remembering Java in 2022

Some inspiring thoughts and memories from some of the members of the Oracle Java Developer Relations team.
Ana-Maria Mihalceanu

"2022 is when many of my developer dreams came true."
Ana-Maria Mihalceanu
2022 is when many of my developer dreams came true, and our Java community significantly contributed to achieving those! Speaking of dreams and community spirit, my 2022 means the year I joined the Java DevRel team at Oracle and the first year of co-speaking opportunities at many excellent community conferences. Each of the events attended and every conversation had with developers brought me joy and sparked ideas on how I can help others even more.

Last but not least, being at JavaOne, sharing the stage with many Java luminaries, demonstrated how Java moves forward through continuous innovation, cooperation and community involvement! I am looking forward to 2023 as it brings more fruitful collaborations, JDK enhancements and the next Java LTS release. Enjoy the end of 2022, recharge your batteries and see you next year!

"I am so blessed!"
Heather Stephens
I am so blessed to rejoin the Java Community after 20 years. The best part has been connecting with so many of you. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your ideas for how we can raise up future Java developers and help them feel inspired, unstoppable, and connected with Java and our community. Your passion for Java, the community, and this mission inspires me! I can’t wait to amp it up in the coming year. Thank you!

"What a year!"

What a year! Conferences are back in full force and I had a blast meeting so many fellow Java developers there. My personal highlights were JBCNConf in Barcelona and JavaOne in Las Vegas — hard to say which one was better, so it looks like I'll have to attend both again next year. But not only the Java Community is going strong, so is Java itself. With Project Amber moving forward at a steady pace, Projects Panama and Loom coming to fruition, and Valhalla on the horizon, it's a truly exciting time to work with Java.

I'm looking forward to the coming year with more groundbreaking improvements and the next, widely-adopted LTS version. See you in 2023!

"The power of Java is it's people!"

How quickly the end of 2022 is upon us. But, there is no end to Java. The technology and the community continues to move forward. 2022 saw the re-introduction of JavaOne and Java Day. It was also filled with so many JUG meet-ups where the community could share ideas and knowledge. All of which showed that what truly gives Java its strong heart beat is the people. People from the Java Team at Oracle who tirelessly work to ensure Java remains a leading programming language and platform; people from the Java Developer Relations Team that I'm part of who also work tirelessly to forge and strengthen relationships with the Java community; and people from the community who find purpose in using Java to address modern application development. I'm humbled by the strength and resilience of the Java community.

In 2023, I look forward to staying connected with all of you as well as find new paths to expand the make-up of our vibrant ecosystem ensuring we are accepting of all. The power of Java is it's people...and I am truly thankful for that.
