Oracle in Africa

Oracle has been present in Africa for more than two decades and our technologies are at the heart of some of the most inspiring digital transformations across Africa.

With 12 dedicated offices including two each in Nigeria and Egypt and one office each in South Africa, Algeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Morocco, and Mauritius, Oracle has been continuously expanding its presence to service customers across the continent.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Expansion in Africa

To meet the rapidly growing demand for enterprise cloud services on the continent, Oracle’s first cloud region in Africa is now live in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Oracle Cloud Johannesburg Region is helping boost cloud adoption across Africa while also helping businesses achieve better performance and drive continuous innovation.

The Johannesburg region is built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), which enables customers to easily migrate IT workloads and data platforms to the cloud or build new cloud native cloud applications. In addition, Oracle offers a wide range of application modernisation and cloud strategies to help African organizations operate with global competitiveness.

Preparing Africa’s Next Generation for the Digital Economy

Research and Development Lab: Morocco

Oracle will establish a new branch of Oracle Labs, Oracle's advanced research arm, at Casanearshore Park in Casablanca to house up to 100 researchers. Researchers at the new facility will use Oracle’s cloud, AI, and machine learning technologies to tackle the most pressing challenges facing business, science and the public sector.

Taking advantage of its new state-of-the-art facility, the team will collaborate with Morocco’s vibrant technology sector to support the identification, exploration, and transfer of new technologies that can advance Oracle's customer's businesses worldwide.

This effort will include expanding intern and graduate recruitment programs, undertaking joint research with local universities and working with the local start up ecosystem so they can be part of this global program.

Graduate Leadership Program: South Africa

In South Africa, Oracle has initiated an annual “Graduate Leadership Program” to address the skills gap in the local ICT industry and create new employment opportunities for South Africa’s youth.

The program focuses on equipping disadvantaged South African students with specialised technology and leadership skills that prepare them for a career in the IT industry. Since its inception in 2014, more than 200 graduates have completed this program with several securing permanent employment with Oracle partner companies and other organizations.

Oracle Ponelopele Secondary School: South Africa

In 2006, under a public-private partnership between Oracle Corporation South Africa and the Gauteng Department of Education, the Ponelopele Secondary school was established.

Ponelopele Secondary is a no-fee school that now admits more than 1200 Grade 8 – 12 learners annually. Supported by more than 60 school staff, the Midrand-based school has consistently delivered exceptional results.

Support for Covid 19 vaccination efforts in Africa

Collaboration with Tony Blair Institute for electronic health records

Oracle is working with the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) to bring cloud technology to Africa to manage public health programs.

Initially, Ghana, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone will use the new Oracle Health Management System to create electronic health records for their vaccination programs for yellow fever, HPV, polio, measles, and COVID-19.

Partnerships such as this one between Oracle, TBI and various governments are critical to the strengthening of Member State public health institutions, not only to incorporate innovative technology but to proactively and urgently harmonize the collection and sharing of important testing data across the continent.
