ORACLE DESIGN WEEK 2023

Even the most complex symphonies start with a single note.

October 9 - 11, 2023

The trill of a flute. The rumble of a timpani. The pluck of a violin. The sharp tap of a baton. A brief silence, followed by the rippling wave of that first note.

Awe-inspiring symphonies come from the beauty of each instrument in harmony. It's no small feat to get dozens of musicians together to all play their parts from the same score.

The same goes for us—all of us—working together to transform a culture, a company, and an entire industry. That's the journey we're on.
Together, as one.

    Starting with one

As we aspire to make Redwood the most inclusive design system on the planet, we know it takes more than one investigation, one retrospection, one introspection, or one team called to action. Everything we do has to be inclusive.

That includes the customers and the cultures we represent in our designs. Who we choose to enable with our designs. Who we partner with to bring those designs to life. And who we are—the selves we bring to work.

    Description

The Redwood Design System already works hard to represent the diversity of its customers and the cultures in its visual expression. Visual expressiveness doesn't have to compromise accessibility, however. Inclusion can and must enable everyone, including those with a variety of abilities, visible or hidden. In this talk we share:

    • One investigation: How do Redwood visuals impact user productivity, measured by response time (speed) and error rate (accuracy)?
    • One retrospection: What have we been doing right and where are the gaps?
    • One introspection: How can we recognize our assumptions & our biases? (a group activity)
    • One call-to-action: How can we work together?

    Please join us.

This is a story of how the CX Sales design team transformed an underperforming dashboard with Clarity of Purpose. One design had good intentions, but usage metrics pointed to a different reality. The other design also had the best of intentions, but was purposefully grounded on a clear understanding of the User Goals it aims to serve. Is there a difference? Come see for yourself.

    Creating Conversations with Wireframes

Requirements and emails are great, but sometimes a visual conversation is best when gathering requirements or validating an idea.  Learn a few techniques using the wireframe toolkit to set context, understand requirements, and build consensus among stakeholders.

    Description

In this workshop we will cover a few techniques for building consensus with stakeholders:

    Setting Context

    • Using the wireframe flow components to understand the big picture.  Do we understand or agree on the flow and steps involved?  How does the user arrive at this experience?  What are the possible paths or opportunities a user can take?

    Understanding requirements

    • Using the wireframe atomic components alone, we will create a conversation between the customer and the computer to determine what is necessary for a successful exchange.

Put it all together to build consensus

    • Selecting page templates and adding the information learned from steps one and two.  Let's bring it all together and build a low fidelity experience.
