Apple and Yahoo’s June announcements make it clear that…
Tabbed inbox interfaces are now the status quo, and GenAI‑powered preview content and summaries are the next wave of inbox changes. I have long argued that tabs aren’t worth worrying about, but Gmail’s policy of Automatic Extraction for marketing emails in the Promotions tab has me concerned. GenAI‑powered summaries that replace preview content or push down an email’s body content are also sure to frustrate marketers, especially when their messages are automatically subjected to these treatments by inbox providers rather than selectively used by subscribers. Overall, these moves are further evidence of inbox providers’ willingness to invest in features that address what they see as email’s shortcomings.

Say What?
“Tap into the Olympics buzz this summer, even if sports aren’t particularly relevant to your business or audience. Think of angles that are more on‑brand, like the ‘____ is my Olympics’ meme or a Paris‑inspired campaign.”
