Coming up on 3 years since ChatGPT’s public debut…
It's hard not to feel like generative AI is both in its infancy and old news. Some early heralded use cases for content generation and personalization have been difficult to implement, with hard‑to‑pin‑down ROIs. Newly emergent tools like AI agents that can directly interact with programs and web services introduce safety concerns as prompt injection attacks become more sophisticated. I’m not sure we’ve reached the dreaded trough of disillusionment yet, but among digital marketers we’ve definitely shifted from unbridled enthusiasm to cleareyed assessments of “where can we use this most effectively.” Instead of being a cautionary tale, I see this as a sign of a maturing industry ready to start catering more directly to the actual needs of marketers instead of pushing shiny untested use cases.
